The change of residence status that I applied for last week from a client's family stay visa to a Specified Activities Notification No. 33 (Working Spouse of a Highly Skilled Foreign Professional) visa has been approved.
If you are the spouse of a foreign national residing in Japan as a highly skilled professional, and you qualify for the "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" visa, you can of course apply to change your status of residence to an "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" visa. However, if you meet the requirements of "Specified Activities Public Notification No. 33 (Working Spouse of a Highly Skilled Foreign Professional)", you can change your status of residence to this visa and work in Japan.
This client met the requirements for the residence status of "Designated Activities Notification No. 33 (Working Spouse of a Highly Skilled Foreign Professional)," so I applied for a change to designated activities.
After the application, there were no particular notices or instructions for additional documents, and approval was received one week after application. I was happy and a little surprised that the review was completed much faster than a normal application for a change of residence status.
It is assumed that the application was reviewed early due to the fact that the spouse's employment is one of the preferential treatment measures for the Highly Skilled Professional visa.
